Antique amber/ porridge amber in wood from around 1820-1850s. The amber was secondly painted in green in 1884, but the original rosemaling / rose painting under the green color is still a little bit visible. The pattern of the rosemaling is quite similar to Thomas Luraas(1799-1886).
This item is newly picked from Nome, Telemark, Norway.
Dated 1884 and text initial letters. The amber has some carved initials under which are possibly from its year of making.
The amber is an example of traditional Norwegian folk art from Telemark. Well preserved and still in original condition. The amber itself is around 170-200 years old, possibly sent from the senior to younger generation as a wedding gift in 1884, therefore it was painted over in green to cover wear and missing painting at that time.
Dimensions ca.:
Height 29 cm,Dia. 23.5 cm.
The amber has small damage on one foot, or else in very good antique condition with nice patina. Age-related wear and missing of painting.
