A beautiful Norwegian antique mangle board from Telemark, Norway. The handcarved antique piece was decorated with a well carved horse form handle, and detailed carved patterns of animal and other naive style patterns. It was dated 1849.
The mangle board is a good example of Norwegian/Skandinavian folkart, especially the naive animal symbol reminds people of the "skiensdyret" which was originally found in 1979 on a 1000 years' old wood plank. The piece might be older than 1849, and decorated later in 1849.
