1800s antique groat/porridge amber from Telemark, Norway, Norwegian folk art, detailed handcarving

A nice antique porridge amber with hand carved rose pattern details from Telemark, Norway. This item was hand carved in the 1880s, and was painted with rosemaling one time, but it's a pity that the original painting was romoved and the amber washed with "lye" in the 1980s, so the wood looks much newer than other items from the same period. Some parts of the amber still have tiny spots of original painting left.

Wood carving has a long tradition in Norway. Most of the well preserved antique wood carving in Norway can be found in some old wooden churches. Norwegian artists inherited old carving techniques and traditional patterns from masters in the old days. Similar to Gudbrandsdalen wood carving, Telemark wood carving items are also famous for their complexity and detailed pattens.

It's a quality object for Norwegian folk art collectors.
