Rare Antique 'Ølfugl' Dragon-Style Ale Bowl – Norway/Sweden, c. 1880s

An exceptionally rare museum-quality Scandinavian ale bowl (Kjenge/Ølfugl) from circa 1880s. Hand-carved in birch or beech wood, this piece features a distinctive dragon-head handle—a highly coveted motif in Scandinavian folk art. The surface retains its original hand-painted rosemaling on a traditional farmhouse red ground, now exhibiting a warm, mellowed patina.

A significant collector's item and a masterful example of 19th-century vernacular craftsmanship.
